Technical sketch of Mercedes's brand new 1.6-liter V6 turbocharged engine. The PU106A Hybrid was designed to work with their car, the "F1 W05 Hybrid." The entire package was designed and built from scratch under the supervision of Aldo Costa, Paddy Lowe, Geoff Willis, and Mike Elliott, to comply with the brand new FIA regulations for the 2014 season.
The engine was an innovative design that had the compressor and turbo packaged at opposite ends of the internal combustion engine. This helped Mercedes in terms of aerodynamic efficiency and packaging.
The car was extremely dominant as Lewis Hamilton won the Drivers' Championship and Mercedes won the Constructors' title. Hamilton and Rosberg shared between them 16 wins from 19 races.
