Technical drawing of Honda's redesigned RA617H engine that powered their car, the McLaren MCL32, for the 2017 Formula 1 World Championship. This was also the first car designed by McLaren that didn't have the "MP4" prefix in its model name since the 1980s. This coincided with Ron Dennis's departure from the team.
Unfortunately, the change in name didn't help as the car was slow and the Honda engine unreliable. Honda was on the back foot since they returned to the sport in 2015. After the token system was abandoned by the FIA for the 2017 season, Honda was free to extensively test its new redesign which mimicked the Mercedes PU. However, due to underestimation and other factors, Honda was never competitive and McLaren switched to Renault for 2018.
